How RetailCardz Verifies Every Coupon (And How You Can Avoid Dead Codes Forever)

Everyone knows the frustration: you find a “70% OFF” code on a coupon site, paste it at checkout, and get “this code is not valid.” Dead codes waste time and erode trust in genuine deals. Here’s how we handle verification at RetailCardz — and how you can spot a bad code from a mile away.
Why most coupon codes online are dead
- They expired. Most promo codes run 1–4 weeks; many sites never remove them.
- They were never public. Influencer or email-only codes get scraped and republished, then blocked by the store.
- They’re auto-generated guesses. Some sites publish codes like SAVE20 for every store on the internet and hope one sticks.
What we do differently
1. Offers come from official sources
We check the store’s own website and official affiliate networks — not other coupon sites. If the store’s homepage says “15% off with code X”, that’s what we list, exactly.
2. Deal-only offers are labeled honestly
Not every discount needs a code — many are automatic sales. We list those as deals instead of inventing a fake code, so you always know what to expect at checkout.
3. Expired offers get removed
Offers carry their real end dates where the store publishes one, and the catalog is rechecked continuously.
A shopper’s 30-second checklist before using any code
- Check the offer’s date — anything without a recent date is suspect.
- Prefer codes shown on the store’s own banner or newsletter popup.
- “Up to X%” means selected items — the top discount applies to the sale section, not everything.
- Welcome offers (10–25% off first order) almost always work — they’re permanent programs, not limited promos.
